The Supplies Roll in

So this week, we've finally got all the materials ordered and en route, and we're set to begin school when we deem it appropriate.  The last couple days I've been looking through our stash of books that we already have and the ones that I need to add, I'm missing one from our current purchase list - so I need to order it!   So this is a list of  books the 3rd grader (back set) and the 8th grader will be reading this year.  There will be some changes to the 8th grader's reading list because she has read a couple already.

The Kindergartener's material was bought a year ago and we had begun some of it, the plan is to move comfortably through her work, but most of it is library books so I have no photos for you!

I think there comes a certain satisfaction with trying out a new method every so often.  This year we have happily hit on something the 8 yr old loves, and I'm hoping it will pass down to the 5 yr old, but it's okay if it doesn't.  The 13 yr old's material has been tried before and didn't work, for us, but she is hopeful since she is self teaching more and more.

2014-15 - Curriculum Plans for (8th/9th, 3rd and K)

Long time no see!  You know how life gets crazy?  Well, life got crazy and some things had to go ... such is life right?

I'm hoping to be back on a regular basis to do some blogging and testing out some stuff on the kids.  So if you have ideas, I'm all ears.

In the mean time - the school year fast approaches.  The local county goes back the first week of August but I think we'll be waiting, I don't have my middle schooler's material yet, we've only just agreed on our approach for the year and I'm hoping to order by the end of the week.

So new up this year we add our Kindergartener to the schedule, though she has done some school stuff in the past - nothing major, and it was just a trial to see how I'd deal with everyone all at once.  I think she'll enjoy some of the stuff we do this year (well a mom can hope!  she is my challenge - she definitely has her own ideas about how things should go - ha, you'd think I'd be used to that by now!)

Anyway - without further adieu - here is our breakdown.

Kindergarten (looks busy but much of our focus is on reading, writing and math this year everything else is as her interest lead!)
**Reading  - 100 EZ Lessons
Phonics - ETC A
**Writing - Handwriting Practice (various workbooks)
Grammar - NO Grammar (probably start Grammar around 2nd grade when she is comfortably reading)
**Math - General Workbooks
Soc. Studies - MBtP - Social Studies
Science - MBtPage - Science
Literature - Free choice (lots of read alouds)
Geography - Expedition Earth  (with 3rd Grader)
Extra - swimming lessons and classes as interested.

** are the required - the rest is as desired!

3rd Grade
Reading/Lit - Moving Beyond the Page
Writing - Free topics plus those included in MBtP
Grammar - Growing with Grammar 3&4 (finishing 3 moving on to 4)
Math - Life of Fred (Plus additional workbooks for review and maybe some Singapore)
Soc. Studies - MBtP - Social Studies
Science - MBtPage - Science
Literature - Free choice (add in read alouds with K'er)
Geography - Expedition Earth  with Little Passports (with K'er Grader)
Extra - Girl Scouts, Art, Music and Personal Development (hoping to open up some outside classes too)

8th Grade
L/A - Oak Meadow
Writing - Oak Meadow +NaNoWriMo and Lime Green Giraffe Staff work
Grammar - Growing with Grammar 8
Math - Life of Fred and Possibly Saxon Math (with OM) or Teaching Textbooks or Chalk Dust
His / SS  - Oak Meadow
Science - Oak Meadow
Foreign Language - French with Rosetta Stone and DuoLingo
Computer - Beginning Web Design and Advanced Web Design
PE / Health & Safety - Topics TBA - hoping to do Horsebackriding, Archery, Fencing
Music - Piano and Vocal
Extra - Girl Scouts, GIT (Girls In Technology), Art, and Personal Development (other classes as interest)

So this year my 8th grader is test driving the Oak Meadow program as a potential lead in to their accredited high school program.  She didn't want to do Calvert (our 2nd contender because there weren't enough additional options in High School) and she is naturally suited to Oak Meadow's teaching style.
